TAMPA BAY, FL — Even though it’s been three days since the Super Bowl, and the victorious Pittsburgh Steelers have already returned to the upper Midwest and celebrated with a parade, Kordell Stewart is holding out hope that some of the invited guests will finally show up for his annual Super Bowl party.
“I know it’s been about 65 hours since the game, but you know how it goes with parties, everyone has to be fashionably late,” Stewart said. “The party is rocking, though, so I hope some of the guys who RSVP’d actually show up and enjoy it with us.”
Stewart’s party, known as Slash/Bash III, is the third annual post-Super Bowl party thrown by the former do-everything receiver/QB. The first two parties were not huge successes, but Stewart said this year it’s different.
“We got a lot of positive RSVPs,” Stewart said. “James Harrison said he’d ‘maybe show up for a drink,’ so we’re hoping to see him. Santonio Holmes’ agent said Santonio would come by ‘unless he ended up being the MVP or something,’ so we’re thinking that he still might show, even though he did end up being the MVP. I saw Big Ben Roethlisberger the other day at a restaurant, and I yelled out, ‘Hey, Ben, wanna come to a party?’ and he didn’t really say anything, but he sort of smiled, which makes me think he’ll be here. Basically, I think Slash/Bash III is really about to hit its stride.”
In the hours following the game, Slash/Bash III had about 11 guests, nine of whom were guys. The party has waned since then.
“It really died down about 11:30 on Sunday night, when I had to go to bed,” Stewart said. “But it’s picked back up again, we’ve just been hanging, listening to music, just sort of waiting to see who shows up and when. It’s a lot of good anticipation.”
Stewart said the party, which is taking place in a Marriott hotel room just outside of Tampa, was interrupted shortly on Monday and Tuesday mornings for housekeeping.
“They came in and totally cleaned up the room, really re-energized the festivities,” Stewart said. “Really helped us hit out stride, to make sure that Slash/Bash kept going strong.”
According to Stewart, he’s not worried about the guests showing up eventually.
“You know how it is when you throw a party,” Stewart said. “Only at the moment when you think that nobody is going to arrive, do the people start to show up. So I’m just trying to get to that place, so we can get things going.”
