NEW YORK, NY - Following an announcement earlier that Brett Favre has officially retired from the New York Jets, he released a statement citing that he is also retiring from the other 30 NFL teams he has yet to play for.

“I’ve given everything that I can to these teams, but it’s time for me to step away,” read Favre from a prepared statement. “My time with the Packers and Jets organizations were a dream come true as I imagine my time with all the other times will be,” said Favre, “However, I said I would always know when it was time to step away and that time is now.” He concluded, “I would like to thank all of these organizations for the class that they’ve shown over the years.” A visibly emotional Favre then thanked everyone in attendance, hugged his family, and left the podium.

The Buffalo Bills organization will reportedly be holding a retirement ceremony for Favre at the beginning of the 2009 season where they will retire his number in their ring of honor despite him never actually being a member of their roster.

Favre was a three-time league MVP as quarterback for the Green Bay Packers before retiring from the team and then re-entering the league the following season as a member of the Jets.
