LAS VEGAS, NV — Oscar De La Hoya spent most of Monday relaxing comfortably, recuperating from his possible career-ending thrashing at the hands of Manny Pacquiao Saturday night.

There was one brief moment of excitement around 3:37 pm Eastern time, when De La Hoya attempted to block a left cross that Pacquiao had thrown 44 hours before.

“I can’t quite explain it, except to say that my reflexes have slowed somewhat,” De La Hoya said. “The punch I was trying to block was thrown in the second round of Saturday’s fight. I tried to get my hands up at the time, but I guess I was a bit to slow. At this level of boxing, you have to react in half a second, not in, you know, 158,400 seconds.”

According to eyewitnesses, De La Hoya was simply sitting on a couch, when all of a sudden he threw his hands to his face in an attempt to block the “punch.”

“It was really strange,” the witness said. “We’re just sitting there, talking, and all of a sudden Oscar throws his hands up next to his face like he’s blocking a punch. Really strange.”

According to the witness, De La Hoya’s hands we’re too far apart, and he could have easily been struck in the face through his slow, wide-open guard.

“Shit,” the witness said. “He had a day and a half to get his guard up. You think he’d put it in front of his face, right?”
