Pujols told he’s MVP — responds, “Of the Cardinals?”
ST. LOUIS, MO — When he found out he was named MVP, Albert Pujols was floored. “I honestly cannot believe this honor,” Pujols said. “I’m so thankful to my teammates for naming me the MVP of the St. Louis Cardinals for 2008. Having the respect of your teammates is all that a major leaguer can ask for, and I’m really so thrilled to have been named. I also congratulate Ryan Howard on his well-deserved National League MVP award. He had an amazing season.” When informed that indeed he had won the MVP, and not Howard, Pujols said,

“What? Are you sure? Moi? There must be a mistake … can someone call the league to confirm?” A Cardinals rep double-checked with MLB headquarters and confirmed to Pujols that he indeed was the MVP. “Wow, that’s really cool,” Pujols said. “Amazing. I sure hope I win the Cardinals’ team MVP award too!”
