BOSTON, MA–Red Sox Second baseman Dustin Pedroia became just the 2nd second baseman in the past 50 years to win the AL MVP Award. Pedroia was almost moved to tears in the ceremony conducted today in Bean Town.

After a rousing acceptance speech in which he thanked everyone from his teammates to his t-ball coach, Pedroia turned to teammate and 3rd place MVP vote-getter Kevin Youkilis and asked him to come to the stage and carry away the award for him.

“Why should I carry the award? I’m the MVP,” Pedroia said. “Youkilis can carry it for me this offseason, at least part of the time. I need to keep my hands free and clear, in case I need them.”

Pedroia said that his logic is sound, based on his understanding of class structure.

“When you reach a certain caliber of person, and an MVP is this type of person, they don’t carry around their own crap,” Pedroia said. “You probably wouldn’t know this, because you’re not an MVP. Wait, is your name Dustin Pedroia? No? Ok, yeah, that’s what I thought.”

Youkilis smiled gamely and carried the award off the stage. he said he’ll carry the award for Pedroia at least for a couple of days, but not for the entire offseason. Further, Youkilis thinks that there’s another reason for Pedroia’s request.

“Dustin is a pretty small guy,” Youkilis commented. “I know he’s in the media guide at 5′9″ and 180 lbs., but that was during a rookie hazing ritual where he was wearing fake breasts and high heels. His face turned a hilarious dark burgundy not usually seen in nature as he huffed and puffed trying to lift the AL MVP Trophy. It was like the big bad wolf at the 3rd little piggy’s house. I know the guy is tiny, but please.”

Youkilis said he’ll at least be carrying Pedroia’s award to Disneyworld on Saturday, where Pedroia is goign to try and reverse the negative experience he had last year.

“It was weird,” said David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz. “Last year we took Dustin to DisneyWorld, and there were a couple of bad incidents. The first one was when he couldn’t get on to Space Mountain, because he was too small. But that wasn’t near as bad as when we found him surrounded by security guards asking him if he was lost, and if he knew where his parents were.”

Pedroia agreed that the past has been rough, but thinks this year will be different.

“Yeah, last year sucked,” said Pedroia. “But now I’m not Dustin Pedroia, the tiny baseball player. I’m Dustin Pedroia the tiny MVP. You see where I’m going with this?”
