Michigan’s Rodriguez: “You were serious about how much you want to beat Ohio State?”

COLUMBUS, OH — Shortly following a 42-7 drubbing at the hands of the Ohio State University, University of Michigan Wolverines head coach Rich Rodriguez was stunned at the angry reaction of his team’s fans.

“Wait, you were serious with all this talk about this being the biggest rivalry we have?” Rodriguez asked. “Seriously? Ohio State? I gotta be honest, this whole time, I thought you were just messing around.”

Rodriguez said he was certain that Michigan State was Michigan’s big rival. “That was the game I really tried for, the Michigan State game,” Rodriguez said. The Wolverines lost that game 35-21.

Michigan falls to 3-9 with the defeat to Ohio State. “I gotta be honest, it’s a little weird to me that this is the biggest game of the year for all these people,” Rodriguez said. “I wish someone would have told me how important it was, so I could’ve watched some film of Terrelle Pryor or Beanie Wells before the game. You know? A little heads up would have been nice.”

Rodriguez said that, in spite of his ignorance of the nature of the situation, he thinks it’s “totally stupid to have your biggest rival be from another state.”

“In my experience I have seen nothing, absolutely nothing, to indicate that it would be normal for a college football team’s biggest rival to be from the next state,” Rodriguez said. Nothing except my seven years at West Virginia, in which we won the Backyard Brawl against Pitt four of my seven years. But outside of that, I think it’s pretty weird.”
