BOSTON, MA — Many baseball writers around the country have egg on their face today, and are trying desperately to explain themselves, after failing to understand the rules governing MVP voting and accidentally choosing Dustin Pedroia as MVP.
“I had no idea it worked that way,” said one writer, who represented the St. Petersburg Times. “I thought it was like Survivor, where you vote for the one that you are hoping will get kicked off the island. Pedroia is such a raging asshole, I figured I definitely want him off the island first. I honestly am quite embarrassed, I had no idea.”
League officials said they noticed a controversy developing when reasonable candidates such as Justin “Nicest Man Alive” Morneau and feel-good stories like Josh Hamilton were coming in lower on ballots, but Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis were all over the place. “We also saw a lot of write-in votes for athletes like Sarah Palin and Bud Selig, so we had a pretty good idea that something was wrong.”
MLB officials have not announced if they plan on doing a recall of the balloting, or if they are simply going to leave the award to Pedroia.
“Who knows,” said the official. “Six to five and pick em that we just let Al Franken be the MVP, and be done with the whole damn thing.”
