BILLINGS, MT — Embattled former Denver Broncos running back, facing drug trafficking charges from the federal government, has an unusual excuse for his behavior.
According to Henry, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was recently in Colorado, where Henry lives, and the two were speaking briefly.
“I asked her, is it illegal to traffic in cocaine still, across interstate lines,” Henry said. “She looked right at me and said, ‘As far as I am aware of, there is no law restricting interstate drug trafficking in the United States.’ So I figure, she’s running for vice president, she has to know something about this stuff. Turns out you don’t have to know anything to be a candidate for vice president.”
According to reports, Palin knows very little about interstate drug trafficking laws, taking up the latest spot on a lengthy list of issues of which she is generally not apprised, including the Bush Doctrine, Supreme Court decisions, foreign policy issues, and many other matters.
Palin expressed regret that her comments led to Henry’s arrest, but indicated that she did not think she was at fault completely.
“I feel bad that Travis Henry misinterpreted my comments about drug trafficking,” Palin said. “Frankly, I was surprised to find out that these laws still existed, but I’m finding out more and more that there’s a lot of laws and rules on the books that I don’t know about. America is really complicated, and there are so many colors and shiny things.”
The McCain camp immediately expressed outrage at what they perceived to be yet another example of the extreme liberal media.
“This is just another case of gotcha journalism by Travis Henry,” said a McCain spokesperson. “Travis Henry deliberately set out, microphone in hand, in an attempt to trap Sarah Palin, and he was moderately successful, and now the media is extolling it as another unprovoked attacked on Sarah, and that’s just not fair.”
Said Henry, from federal prison, “I don’t feel too successful.”
