CHICAGO, IL — Carlos Zambrano has election fever.
The star pitcher for the Cubs has taken it upon himself to take a poll concerning the National League MVP voting that has already taken place.
“I am so excited about the election next week, and all of the polling that is going on, that I thought I would simply run my own poll,” Zambrano said. “But there are enough polls about the election, so I did my own poll about the NL MVP. The results, I think, are amazing.”
The poll results indicated that Carlos Zambrano has a 80 percent chance of winning the NL MVP in 2008, with Albert Pujols having a 10 percent chance and the rest of the league (”Other”) having an additional 10 percent chance. The survey was conducted over a three-day period in which 10 respondents were contacted, all of whom are members of Zambrano’s family. The survey has a margin of error of +/- .01 percent, according to Zambrano.
“We have reasons to believe that these numbers are very accurate,” Zambrano said. “After all, I’m enrolled in statistics at Northwestern right now, so I think I know how to run a poll. And let me tell you, when you ask ten people about something and they almost all agree, you can be pretty certain that you are not dealing with outliers.”
The NL MVP will be announced later this year; Zambrano has already made plans to be in Chicago to celebrate the award with his friends and fans.
“It’s been an amazing year for me,” Zambrano said. “The no-hitter, making the playoffs, and now the forthcoming NL MVP. It’s really going to be great, and I couldn’t be more proud of myself.”
Polling is one of Zambrano’s newest passions, and he’s already announced that he’s conducting several more polls, including one about whether eggs are gross, and one about whether red shoes or blue shoes are cooler on a baseball field.
“It’s all about the data, man,” Zambrano said. “You gotta find good information and really analyze it, if you want to understand this sad and beautiful world in which we live.”
