Favres forgot to cancel Monday Night Football party

KILN, MS — Dozens of friends of Brett and Deanna Favre were puzzled Monday when they arrived at the Favre residence for a Monday Night Football viewing party, only to find nobody at home.

It seems that, after Brett Favre had retired from football earlier this year, the family had decided they would host a Monday Night Football viewing party, preferably for a Packers game.

“We thought it would be fitting to have our friends and family over for a Packers game on Monday night, since that was always when Brett seemed to shine,” Deanna Favre told SSNN. “However, schedules being what they are, the only week we could find when everyone could do it was week three, for a seemingly innocuous game between the Jets and the Chargers. We still thought it would be fun, so I had invites printed up and sent out.”

The invites, which proclaimed that “Monday is Funday” and that it was to bring “Football night with the Favres” went out several months ago — as Deanna always says, “You can’t get on someone’s calendar too early.”

“I guess I just forgot about the party, with everything that’s been going on,” Deanna said. She flew to San Diego earlier this wek, to be with Brett when he plays against the Chargers this evening. “I totally bricked on this one. I hope that everyone didn’t go over to our place like they planned. I really hope that Monica didn’t make her special marshmallow salad, and have it all go to waste.”

The residents of Kiln, after a brief moment of confusion and a quick burst of feelings of abandonment, decided that they’d head over to the local Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the game, since Jimmy Spinnaker knows the manager, and Monica could bring in her marshmallow salad without penalty. They were not even mad at the Favres for their transgression.

“Look, they’ve clearly got a lot on their minds,” Spinnaker said. “So what if you forget that you invited 130 people to your house on a given day. I’m sure that people forget about their weddings all the time — this is no different.”

Deanna was mortified when SSNN reminded her about the party — not just for her disgruntled guests, but also for the large deposit she had placed with Kiln Katering.

“I’m gonna have to have Brett give them a call on Monday,” she said. “Hopefully he’ll be able to get it back. Sometimes he’s good like that, being a football star and all. They really love him down there in Kiln.”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
