MILWAUKEE, WI — An irate Prince Fielder is in trouble with the law today after a Monday incident in which he shoved a young woman who decided to leave a screening of The Dark Knight before it had concluded.
The woman, Amischa McGregor, 29, stands about 5′2″ tall and weighs about 115 pounds. She reportedly rose about two hours and 25 minutes into a 7:40 pm showing of the movie.
“I had to go and get my son from the babysitter,” McGregor told SSNN. “I messed up with the timing, and I realized that my son was going to basically be sitting out there all alone, waiting for me, so I needed to go and grab him. I had no idea the movie was going to be sooooo long. So, unfortunately, I had to just get up and try and get out of there.
“When I got up, though, I heard this voice say, ‘Have some respect.’ I sort of looked around, because it was dark, and then I heard it again – ‘Have some respect.’ Next thing I know this wildebeest-like behemoth is attacking me.”
The voice, of course, was Fielder’s. The beefy Milwaukee first baseman was upset with McGregor’s willingness to abandon the endeavor halfway through for her own personal issues.
McGregor was quickly protected by a handful of moviegoers, and she does not think she’ll press charges, but that doesn’t mean she emerged completely unscathed.
“It was really scary,” she said. “Really, really scary. I mean, Prince is just an enormous man, and he could have really hurt me. I just think it’s sort of unfair that he’d react like that to me needing to take care of my kid. What sort of animal is he?”
Fielder said that he understands where McGregor comes from, but that he stands behind his actions.
“Listen, we’ve all got stuff going on,” Fielder said. “I’ve got stuff happening, and so did every other person in that theater. We’ve all got places we’d like to be. But you stay with your group. We all came into that theater together, and we were all going to be there together until the end.
“We were going to finish what we started – that’s just how I operate. You have to respect the Knight.”
