Ann Curry annoying friends, family, country by referring to Olympics as “Games of the 29th Olympiad”

BEIJING, CHINA — Ann Curry’s friends and family report that they’ve been “really annoyed” for over two weeks, Ms. Curry refuses to refer to the Olympics by any name other than its formal title, the “Games of the 29^th Olympiad.”

“I’m really having a great time at the Games of the 29^th Olympiad here in Beijing,” Curry wrote in an email that introduced her Shutterfly picture gallery from Beijing. “Everything has just been fantastic – from the wonderful performance of Michael Phelps to the graciousness of the Chinese, the Games of the 29^th Olympiad have really been something to behold.”

According to recipients of the Shutterfly email and countless other emails, calls and postcards, Curry has been embracing the full name of the Olympics since well before her arrival in Beijing.

“Yes, that is true,” said production assistant Reggie Roon. “She always says the whole name. It’s really pretty ridiculous. The other day I overheard her telling someone that the city of London really has its work cut out for it in terms of the Games of the 30^th Olympiad, since the Games of the 29^th Olympiad here in Beijing have been so stellar. Soooo annoying.”

Perhaps most dismayed by Curry’s behavior are her parents, who say they wonder what they possibly could have done to turn their daughter into the embarrassment that she has become.

“We just don’t understand it at all,” said Bob Curry, speaking for his wife, who was far too distraught to comment. “We did not raise the kind of high-falootin’, pompous ninny that everyone has seen Ann become. We’re just normal Americans – we call it the Olympics, like any reasonable person.

“It’s just very upsetting to know that despite your best efforts to raise your kids in a grounded environment, embracing core American values, your daughter might someday sully your family name by using the phrase ‘Games of the 29^th Olympiad’ ad nauseam in front of the whole damn country.”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
