CC Sabathia confused by new nickname

MILWAUKEE — CC Sabathia had an unusual request of reporters in Milwaukee upon arriving with the team Tuesday – no more periods.

“I’ve just decided to go with CC, without periods,” Sabathia told reporters. “No more C-dot-C-dot. Just CC.”

That’s when all hell broke loose.

“Like milliliter!” one reporter shouted, much to the bemusement of the others assembled. “Yes, that can be your nickname. The milliliter!”

The reporters, who were rolling with laughter, immediately started to refer to Sabathia as ‘milliliter’ and/or ‘mL,’ but the big lefty was having none of it and stormed angrily from the press conference. Reached later, Sabathia was still furious.

“I’ll kill any man who calls me milliliter,” he told SSNN. “It don’t even make no sense. Milliliter? mL? I don’t even have an ‘M’ in my name. I have an ‘L,’ but it’s only in my middle name, and then it’s like the fourth or fifth letter. Don’t make any sense at all.”

When it was explained to the reigning Cy Young Award winner that in science, cc stands for cubic centimeter, and that the measurement is the same as a milliliter, Sabathia seemed at once confused and further enraged.

“I am not a measurement,” Sabathia said. “I am a human being, and a pitcher. So let me be clear: Milliliter is gonna break your face if you disrespect him again.”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
