NEW YORK, NY — Struggling to stay in the limelight after his unfortunate firing last week, ex-Mets manager Willie Randolph called a press conference Monday to announce that he is not supporting Barack Obama in the upcoming presidential election.
Randolph explained to a small group of reporters from free weekly newspapers that despite her no longer being eligible for the democratic party’s nomination, he is fully behind Hillary Clinton’s now-defunct campaign.
“After Omar [Mets GM Minaya] fired me at three in the morning, I needed to talk to someone,” Randolph said. “I called Barack, but it went straight to his voice mail. It got me thinking – maybe Hillary was right. I can certainly attest that Mrs. Clinton is more reliable when it comes to 3 AM phone conversations.”
Without going into too much detail about their conversation, Randolph said Clinton was very understanding about the trouble he had with the media, and that the two shared stories about their fan bases turning on them. While he admitted the two did not discuss it, Randolph did say he would be interested in campaigning with Clinton.
“Oh yeah, Hillary’s great,” he said. “She’s so funny and intelligent – very un-Omar like. I just hope Obama doesn’t give her a job. He seems like the type to say she’s totally secure and giver her a vote of confidence, only to fire her a couple weeks later.”
Randolph added that despite the slight given to him by Obama, he would still consider working for the potential President elect.
“I just want Barack to know that if he apologizes to me, we can be cool,” he said. “Hell, I could even manage his campaign – I’ve got experience with that. Just know that I’m not the best at holding commanding leads.”
