Taylor offers to teach Parcells to dance

MIAMI, FL — Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor has made the first move in trying to repair his relationship with Bill Parcells, Miami’s new Executive Vice President of Football Operations.

He wants to teach the Big Tuna how to mambo.

The pair got off on the wrong foot when Taylor decided to go on television’s Dancing With the Stars instead of working out with the Dolphins. Parcells is notorious for being from football’s old school, and he was not pleased that Taylor chose Hollywood over football.

Reports out of the Dolphins training facility say that Parcells essentially ignored the Pro Bowl defensive end when he showed up to discuss his status with the team. But according to a source in the Dolphins offices, Taylor has offered the proverbial olive branch to his new boss with the suggestion of private dance lessons.

“Jason thinks that they can really bond this way,” the source said. “He has offered to give Bill private lessons in his office on various dances – like the Waltz, Mambo, Tango and maybe even some Salsa dancing. I think Bill would be most interested in Swing, but that’s not really JT’s specialty. Still, this could really be the foundation of a great relationship.”

Parcells is thought to be intrigued by the offer – and seriously considering taking Taylor up on it – but the former head coach is notorious for changing his mind. He “retired” as head coach of the New York Giants in 1991, only to change his mind a year later when he secured an agreement to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He changed his mind on that deal and instead became head coach of the New England Patriots.

Parcells then left New England to take over the New York Jets, only to “retire” yet again in 1999. In 2003, he came out of “retirement” once more – this time to coach the Dallas Cowboys. But he stayed with that team for only four years before suddenly bailing in favor of television work.

Just a short while later, Parcells moved on to his current position in Miami – but only after it was thought he had an agreement in place to be an executive for the Atlanta Falcons.

As is, the situation between Taylor and Parcells remains tenuous, although it is clear Taylor has made a sincere offer to Parcells to tutor him in dancing. Whether or not Parcells accepts, and means it, should be answered soon.

“To tell you the truth, I think Bill is totally into the idea,” SSNN’s source said. “It’s just that he hasn’t done any real dancing since he took a ballroom class with Bledsoe in ‘95, and I think he’s a little nervous about embarrassing himself.”
