Mayor of New Orleans didn’t know Hornets were in playoffs

Ray Nagin is a little confused

NEW ORLEANS, LA — New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin was both thrilled and stunned Tuesday when, while channel surfing, he stumbled across the New Orleans Hornets playing a basketball game.

“I love watching my Hornets,” Nagin said. “At first, I was sure it was some sort of exhibition game – like they were playing the Harlem Globetrotters to raise money for Hurricane Katrina relief, or something. Then, when I saw they were playing the Spurs, I thought maybe it was a summer league game or something. But after like 15 minutes, it dawned on me – the Hornets are still alive in the playoffs!!?!”

Nagin told SSNN that he “honestly had no idea that the Hornets were any good, at all.”

“Listen, if you would have asked me what our record was this year, I’d have said 20-62, or maybe 23-59, something like that,” Nagin said. “I had no idea that we were good enough to squeak into the playoffs.”

When informed that the Hornets, led by Chris Paul, won 56 games and were second only to Kobe Bryant’s Lakers in the playoff seedings, Nagin was speechless.

“This just is further proof of the amazing things that happen when a city sticks together like we did after Hurricane Katrina,” Nagin said. “I am sure if you ask the Hornets if they could’ve done it without their fans, they would say no. And as the leader of those fans, I couldn’t be happier that we are on our way to the Eastern Conference finals [sic].”
