Jeter, Giambi claim thong sharing part of Sex in the City promotion

NEW YORK CITY, NY — After word leaked that the pair often share a gold thong to “bust slumps,” New York Yankees Derek Jeter and Jason Giambi said it was all part of a plan to promote the upcoming Sex in the City movie.

“First of all, we’re totally not gay,” Jeter told reporters yesterday. He then flashed his trademark smile, causing several Yankees beat writers to swoon. “The whole thong thing was just a story we made up to help promote the movie.”

The movie, as well as the long-running HBO series it’s based on, is filmed in New York City. While producers of the film were unwilling to comment on whether Giambi and Jeter – or any of the Yankees – are involved, Giambi was more than willing to discuss his role.

“We’re just trying to promote tourism and all that. We’re totally not gay. Not that there’s anything wrong with that,” Giambi said, before confirming rumors that both he and Jeter have cameos in the movie. “I’m Man Who Has Sex With Kim Cattrall #4, and Jeter is Man Who Has Sex With Kim Cattrall #7. Or maybe it’s the other way around, I forget – either way, we’re clearly not gay. Neither one of us. Not one ounce of gayness here, dude.”

A few days ago, Giambi said he’s been wearing the thong for years as a good-luck charm and that he shared it with Jeter to help him out of a recent slump. He would not discuss the origins of his thong-wearing ritual, but did add, “It totally makes my injections easier. I mean, it made my injections easier – back when I was making those types of awful mistakes. And I am not gay.”

Yankee catcher Jorge Posada told SSNN he has seen both Giambi and Jeter wearing the thong on recent occasions. “I offered to buy Derek his own, but he seemed to want to share with Jason. I mean, I’m totally not gay – but I think Jeter might be. After all, he did date Mariah Carey.”

For his part, Jeter denies both wearing the thong and ever dating Mariah Carey.

“Never happened,” Jeter said. “Why would I stoop to either one of those things? I’m Derek Jeter, for crying out loud. And I am totally not gay.”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
