CHICAGO, IL — Admitting that he “totally bricked on the date” and is “feeling a bit embarrassed right now,” Jerry Angelo was seen early Saturday purchasing a USA Sports Weekly magazine which he was planning on using for his draft preparation for the 2008 NFL draft.

“I guess I got the dates a little confused,” Angelo said. “I thought that the draft was going to be next week, but it turns out it was this weekend, so I just woke up and said, ‘Dang, I better get something with some player names in it.’”

Angelo selected Vanderbilt’s Chris Williams with the 14th pick of the draft; a respectable selection that was met with decent response from the Bears faithful. However, in the second round, the Bears selected Tulane running back Matt Forte, a surprise to many in and out of Chicago. Angelo defended his pick.

“The magazine that I used to do draft prep had a really nice article about Forte,” he said. “I guess he was sort of in my head on draft day. It was like there was a buzz in the air, you know? Plus, did you know how badly New Orleans was affected by Hurricane Katrina?”

For the second day of the draft, in which the players are more obscure and not generally mentioned in USA Sports Weekly, Angelo is planning on just letting NFL commissioner Roger Goodell know that he wants “whoever is on top of Mel Kiper’s best available list.”
