LAS VEGAS, NV (or maybe ATLANTIC CITY, NJ; or possibly SOMEWHERE IN EUROPE) — SSNN is relatively certain that Bernard Hopkins and Joe Calzaghe faced off in a crucial light-heavyweight boxing match that nobody cared about.
Going into the bout – which several sources said was supposed to take place on Saturday night – Calzaghe was undefeated and in possession of a couple of championship belts from the various boxing organizations. A win for the ancient Hopkins (believed to be as old as the sweet science itself) would have been a major upset, inasmuch as such a thing exists in today’s world of professional boxing.
SSNN is ready to report that, in all likelihood, either Hopkins or Calzaghe won the fight. Although now that we think about it, there’s certainly the possibility that the two pugilists fought to a draw.
“I am sure it was a great fight,” said sports fan Jon Amitanio. “I just wish I could have seen it. Actually, that’s not true – I have a free pay-per-view hookup, so I totally could have watched it, but I checked out Saturday Night Live instead. Still, though, I bet it was pretty good as these things go. I mean, there was so much buzz going into the fight… Ok, I’m lying again.”
All of the above statements assume that the fight actually took place, which SSNN is hoping to confirm at some point later this week. If the match was postponed for some reason, that news should be available soon.
SSNN intends to cover whatever further information is released regarding the Hopkins-Calzaghe fight, though we wouldn’t hold our breath if we were you.

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
