GLENDALE, AZ — After photos of Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart partying last weekend at his Arizona home become public via the internet, the young starlet’s teammates and coaches angrily expressed their disappointment in the QB’s behavior.
“I was shocked,” said offensive tackle Reggie Wells. “I couldn’t believe he would debase and humiliate himself like that in public without asking me to be involved. Talk about vile behavior – I mean, it’s not like he couldn’t have called. I live like two blocks away!”
Most offended by the photos was linebacker Gerald Hayes. Known among teammates for the strong spiritual guidance he has provided for Leinart and other Cardinals, Hayes was stunned by his friend and teammate’s fall from grace.
“This was sick and depraved behavior. In other words, it was right up my alley,” Hayes told SSNN, clearly nonplussed by the fact that he wasn’t invited to Leinart’s get-together. “I pray that the next time he’s faced with such temptation, he will have the strength to look deep into his rolodex and find my number.”
Among the photos splashed across Web sites thedirty.com and TMZ.com over the weekend, Leinart was shown assisting a co-ed in drinking from a beer bong, and sharing a hot tub with four women. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt claims these disturbing images nearly brought tears to his eyes.
“He’s a young kid, and we cut him some slack, but we had a talk and he now knows what’s expected of him,” the disappointed coach said. “When I was a kid, we would never dream of engaging in that kind of tomfoolery – not without giving the coaching staff first crack. I mean these kids today have no sense of tradition, or seniority.”
According to Hayes, it’s all in God’s hands now.
“I hope and pray that God will grant me the strength to forgive him for his oversight. But if he should stumble, and make another such mistake in the future… Well, heaven help him.”
