Seahawks plan ahead, hire Vermeil to replace Mora

SEATTLE, WA — The Seattle Seahawks announced today that they will be firing coach-to-be Jim Mora following the 2012 season and replacing him with Dick Vermeil.

“This was not an easy decision, but it’s time for us to make this change,” Seahawks owner Paul Allen told SSNN. “We gave Jim a chance for a few years, but it wasn’t really working, so we had to be honest with ourselves and realize its time to go in a different direction.”

The Seahawks have embraced a plan-ahead approach that is allowing the team to really get ahead of the curve on major transactions. The first step was the hiring of Mora to replace Mike Holmgren for the 2009 season, over a year in advance.

“This is a technique that I learned from my days at Microsoft,” Allen said. “It’s a simple best-business practice. A lean organization is able to plan ahead, to adapt in advance, to really be proactive and aggressive. So that’s simply what we’re doing.”

Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck didn’t seem particularly concerned about the move to hire Vermeil.

“What the hell do I care?” Hasselbeck asked. “I’m getting traded to the Browns in 2012, so I’ve got much bigger fish to fry. Ever try and buy a house in Cleveland three years in advance?”
