LUBBOCK, TX — Though he told Jay Bilas yesterday on ESPN that he doesn’t consider his resignation from Texas Tech to officially be a retirement, Bobby Knight explained to SSNN today that he is excited about his newfound free time and doesn’t intend to get back into college basketball in the immediate future. “Now that I’m not involved in the day-to-day agony of coaching, I’ve got a ton of time to spend with the people I really care about,” Knight said. “I’ve been coaching for almost all of my 20-year marriage – honestly, I haven’t been able to dedicate the time to my wife that I would have liked. All my tough love has gone in the direction of my players, but now I can share so much more of myself with my family.” Knight’s wife, Karen, is also looking forward to seeing more of her husband, and says that the coach’s grandchildren have been calling non-stop since the announcement to schedule play-dates with their newly unemployed grandfather. “Naturally, it’s been tough for me to watch Bob express his feelings so readily to his teams over the years, and feel like there was so little left when he got home,” Karen Knight told SSNN. “And the little ones, Braden and Will, they barely know him as anything besides a coach. I’m honestly not sure if he’s ever even cursed at either of them! You haven’t lived until you’ve been sworn at by my Bobby – ask any of his players, it’s a thrilling experience. You can really feel the love.”
