WASHINGTON, D.C. – After appearances from Chuck Knoblauch and Andy Pettitte in the last week, the congressional committee looking into the Mitchell Report deposed Roger Clemens today regarding his supposed abuse of performance-enhancing drugs. According to Clemens and his legal team, the 354-game winner answered all questions without taking the fifth amendment, and told the committee the same story he shared with Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes and gathered media members at his January 7 press conference. “Roger’s story will not change – not now, not ever,” attorney Rusty Hardin assured SSNN. “And to that end, we’ve written out a detailed map – we’re calling it the ’storyline’ – so that Roger makes sure he has all his facts straight before each interview. We’ve been rehearsing, and just going over all the details a lot, and I’m fairly certain Roger has all the important parts memorized.” Clemen was not willing to discuss any particular elements of his story, but did speak in general terms about the deposition, and his preparation for it. “I was definitely more tense with Mike Wallace, no question about it. I mean, the first time you tell a story – any story – you’re worried about getting everything right. But each time I’ve gone through it, it’s been easier. Obviously we do some drilling, some flash cards and stuff right before each interview, but for the most part I’ve got it all down now. Congress was easy.”
