TACOMA, WA — “Die-hard” Seattle Seahwaks fan John Monroe had a doubly enjoyable day on Saturday. Not only were his beloved Seahawks playing and winning an NFL playoff game, but he also was treated to a little piece of Americana he’d never seen before – the Coors Light coaching press conference commercials.
Early in the first quarter of the game, which he was watching with some co-workers at the accounting firm at which he works, Monroe saw a commercial in which clips of Bill Parcells had been spliced with humorous questions from young men drinking Coors Light. For Monroe, the results were magical.
“Did you see that?!?” screamed Monroe to his colleagues, who were flashing only small smiles and barely paying attention. “Rewind! Rewind!!!!”
When informed that this series of commercials has been on TV for months, Monroe was incredulous. “I can’t believe I’ve never seen them,” Monroe said. “I watch football every weekend.”
“This confirmed a lot of suspicions we’ve had about John,” said Martin Dumpsen, one of the hosts of the event. “He says he’s a football fanatic, and yet he never enters our work fantasy league or any of our pools. And he doesn’t know anything about what’s going on with the Seahawks – I’m pretty sure he said something to someone about Dave Krieg on the phone the other day.”
Monroe, however, was unfazed by the criticism from his colleagues. Laughing hysterically, he demanded that his colleagues use their DVR to rewind the clip and replay it several times. “I couldn’t believe my eyes,” Monroe said. “You can’t even tell that they’re fake press conferences – they look just like the real ones.”
The commercials have been running for over a year, with approximately 14 showings per NFL game. They have featured Jim Mora, Denny Green, Bill Parcells, Bill Walsh, Mike Ditka, and others.
“I absolutely love those commercials,” said Monroe, who spent the rest of the day watching clips on YouTube. “I had to hear every word of every one, over and over. I didn’t want to miss a single joke. You know that they go back to a couple of short jokes after they show the stuff about the beer, right? I mean, Genius!”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
