FROM THE ARCHIVES: Crosby leads NHL All-Star ballotting

With Sid the Kid hitting the injury list for 6-8 weeks, he’s not gonna get a chance to play in the All-Star game, even though he did finish as the top vote-getter. No word on whether he broke Gretzky’s record…

PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby is on his way to reaching another milestone after NHL officials announced that the third-year phenom is leading the league in All-Star votes submitted by fans online and in arenas across the country. Of the ten total votes received since September, Crosby has received six and is on pace to shatter the previous record of 47, set by Wayne Gretzky in 1992. “It’s just a testament to how the league continues to bounce back and regain its place alongside soccer as the sport only foreigners living in America appreciate,” the Nova Scotia native told SSNN in a phone interview. League officials are pleased with the overall output and expect to receive at least another eight or nine votes before the December 28 deadline.
