Favre: Sunday’s game a “must-win”

GREEN BAY, WI — Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has declared Sunday’s game a “must-win” for the Packers.

“Look, everyone knows that I play better in big games,” Favre said. “And this game here, this is basically a must-win. We’ll basically have no chance of making the Super Bowl if we don’t win this weekend. It’s a must-win. And I don’t need to tell you how great I am in must-win games.”

Packers coach Mike McCarthy was thrilled that Favre is adding some importance to the game on behalf of the Packers.

“I love it that Brett is taking some initiative and really trying to raise the importance of the game this weekend,” McCarthy said. “We have a very young team, and Brett is the leader of the team, and for him to step up like this, and declare it a must-win, that really says something about him as a man.”

Many of the younger Packers were floored by Favre’s proclamation.

“I’ve never really played in a must-win game before,” said Ryan Grant. “We made the playoffs so easily this year that it was really surprising. So it’ll be interesting to see what the atmosphere is like in a must-win. I bet it’s crazy.”

The Giants are taking a different tack.

“I’m not going to go so far as to describe it as a must-win,” said quarterback Eli Manning. “Don’t get me wrong, it’s a big game. But a must-win? Let’s not get carried away.”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
