Carroll agrees to Falcons’ proposal on one condition

LOS ANGELES, CA — Sources tell SSNN that USC head coach Pete Carroll spoke at length with Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank via phone Thursday evening about the Falcons’ head coaching vacancy. Carroll remains the front-runner for the less-than-desirable position, and surprisingly admits to have contemplated a deal proposed by Blank that does satisfy Carroll’s requisite demand for control over all personnel decisions. While financial terms of the proposal were not disclosed, Carroll reportedly wasted no time indicating to the Falcons organization which players he intends to bring aboard if the deal is finalized. Currently vacationing in Hawaii, Carroll spoke with SSNN shortly after his conversation with Blank. “Although I’m not at liberty to discuss the specifics of Mr. Blank’s offer at this time, I will say I made it very clear to him that I must be allowed to bring in any and all eligible players from the University of Southern California, or there is no deal,” Carroll explained. “There’s a reason why Atlanta went 4-12 this past season. There’s also a reason why my Trojans went 11-2. It only makes perfect sense that a complete overhaul is in order. Out with the bad, in with the good, you know what I’m saying?” In seven seasons at the helm of USC, Carroll has compiled a 76-14 record, a winning percentage of nearly .850. Following the meeting between Carroll and Blank, speculation quickly surfaced whether former Atlanta head coach Bobby Petrino would leave his post at Arkansas after only 30 days to fill the potential new opening at USC.
