Skiles thankful for holiday firing

CHICAGO, IL – After spending Christmas Day with his family – who had traveled to Chicago for the occasion – fired Bulls coach Scott Skiles seemed to have gained fresh perspective when he spoke to SSNN on Wednesday.

“It was the best gift I could have asked for, really,” Skiles explained. “Let’s be honest – that team is a bunch of no-talent try-hard hacks. We were going nowhere. After taking that bunch of crap to the playoffs three years in a row, my stock has never been higher.”

According to Skiles, he has already been contacted by multiple NBA teams inquiring about his availability, and desire to continue coaching; and at least one NCAA program has spoken to his agent. The hard-nosed headman was also incredulous at the perception that a Christmas Eve firing was cruel.

“Insensitive? Are you kidding me?” Skiles chortled. “Let’s look at this thing – I can spend Christmas rushing to and from practice, getting ready to go get our ever-loving asses whooped in San Antonio; or I can chill with the fam, smoke some blunts and break down some rosters to see who I want to coach next year. Umm… I’ll take the blunts, thank you.”

While the Bulls have yet to announce a successor, Skiles does not envy whoever ends up in that position. In fact, he doesn’t see it as an attractive position at all.

“It’s tough, because I know Jimmy [Boylan, Skiles' top assistant in Phoenix and Chicago] is in there interviewing right now, and I’d hate to see him screw up his coaching career by taking the Bulls as his first head coaching job,” Skiles said. “I’d much rather see Larry Brown struggle with that bunch of broke-shooting jump shooters. That would be a hoot… Or maybe Isiah – I hear he’ll be available soon.”
