SILVER SPRING, MD — The National Weather Service officially lowered the NFL’s traditional Two-Minute Warning down to a Two-Minute Watch today, following an announcement that many of the league’s football stadiums would remain mostly unaffected by storms across the country this week. “Nothing will change in terms of gameplay, and the rules set up by the National Football League for when the game clock winds down to the two-minute mark will remain the same,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in response to the NWS announcement. “It’s just nice that players and fans can rest a bit easier, knowing that our venues are safe and their focus can remain on enjoying our great game, rather than fearing for their safety when there are two minutes left in a half.” The commissioner also suggested that further NWS announcements regarding the NFL may be forthcoming, including modifications to the injury report and the potential destruction of Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
