STAMFORD, CT — WWE Chairman Vince McMahon announced at a press conference this morning that he will be opening a Hall of Fame for his defunct XFL football league at some point in 2008.
“The legacy of the players that came through this league in its three months of existence needs to be not only recognized, but celebrated,” said McMahon as he addressed the press from behind a podium bearing both the WWE and XFL logos. “The warriors that toiled in the trenches of the eight teams that made up our league will be immortalized in the greatest Hall of Fame ever built!”
To accentuate his point, a pyrotechnics display immediately went off behind McMahon.
Some exhibits that are being touted for the Hall include the receiver from the phone used by the Los Angeles Xtreme to call the Maryland Terrapins’ Scott Milanovich and let him know he was the first ever pick in the XFL draft; the opportunity to wear game-worn jerseys from various teams that made up the league; and the controversial, Be Tackled By A Former New York/New Jersey Hitman Experience which, according to McMahon, “is exactly what the name describes.”
Former Los Angeles Xtreme quarterback Tommy Maddox – who would eventually become a starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers and retire with a Super Bowl ring – was on hand for the press conference and will also be an honoree at the ribbon-cutting ceremony when the Hall opens next year in Stamford, Connecticut.
“A lot of people have made the XFL the butt of many jokes, and ridiculed the league for its numerous failings. But many good things came from it as well,” the one-time (and only) XFL League MVP said. “I have a lot of great memories from those three months, and retain many friendships from that time as well. As a matter of fact, He Hate Me and I still have lunch at least once a month or so. We love to reminisce about the good old days.”
In addition to the Hall of Fame, McMahon also announced the intended launch of exciting new XFL programming – “The all-new XFL Classix Channel will be launching soon, and feature all those unforgettable battles that fans have been clamoring for, but have not had access to since 2001.”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
