HOUSTON, TX — Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Kyle Shanahan – son of Broncos headman Mike – received an early Christmas gift from his father Thursday night in the form of an NFL win. According to the elder Shanahan, Kyle shouldn’t expect any further gifts this holiday season. “Look, we gave him the game,” Mike Shanahan told SSNN early Friday. “Bottom line – we weren’t going to the playoffs anyway. Not in the AFC. For the Broncos, a 9-7 season just isn’t anything to get excited about. If the Texans get there, that’s good for them, playoffs or no. It just seemed like the right thing to do. But Kyle can just forget about that Wii he asked for.” For his part, the younger Shanahan called “BS” on pops. “You know, that’s just like Dad,” Kyle Shanahan said, when informed of his father’s statement. “When I was eight, I beat him in checkers. He spent the whole following week telling everyone how important it is to let kids win games so they stay confident. I guess nothing changes. Christmas present my ass – Sage Rosenfels ate that defense alive, and that’s because I’m his coach.” Rosenfels refused to comment on the record, but did indicate that Kyle had given him some inside information that helped him dissect the Broncos’ secondary. Rosenfels also said that Kyle Shanahan had called him early Friday to say that “if [Rosenfels] planned to get me a Christmas present, I really want a Wii.”
