Kelli Croyle forgets Brodie at gym

KANSAS CITY, MO — A shivering Brodie Croyle stumbled up the driveway to his house yesterday, seven hours after he left for a brief workout that ended up being an all-day affair because his wife forgot to pick him up from the fitness club where the Chiefs‘ young QB belongs.

Things started innocently enough, when Croyle was dropped off at the local Gold’s Gym at 1:45 pm Monday by his wife Kelli, to do a bit of light weightlifting and a spinning class. When four o’clock rolled around, however, Kelli was nowhere to be found.

“I figured she was just running a bit late,” Croyle said. “So I went inside and rocked some abs for about half an hour. Crunches, russian twists, all that stuff. When I came back out at 4:30 and she still wasn’t there, I didn’t know what to do. “

Croyle said he panicked a bit. “I didn’t have my celly with me, so I borrowed someone else’s to call her,” he said. “That was dumb. Ever since Hard Knocks, she never picks numbers she doesn’t recognize. I didn’t even bother leaving her a voicemail, ’cause she only checks them once a week.

Croyle set out on a jog for home, but after four miles he became tired and ended up walking the last 4.6 miles through the 56-degree drizzle.

When reached for comment this morning, Kelli Croyle reported that the snafu was an “honest to goodness mistake.”

“Just a mess-up on my part,” Kelli said. “I went to meet some friends at California Pizza Kitchen, and then I did a little shopping. Next thing I knew it was like 5:00, so I went home and got in the bath. I was kind of thinking that it had been a long time for Brodie at the gym, but he really seems to want to do well these days. I figured I’d just let him be, and he’d call if he needed me.”

Brodie Croyle said he was noticed by a couple of passersby, though none offered to help him out with a ride.

“A few people slowed down and honked at me, or yelled ‘Go Chiefs!’” he said. “Ironically, one guy said, ‘Where’s Kelli?’ I wish I knew, man. I wish I knew.”
