LOS ANGELES, CA — The NBA announced Wednesday that Clippers center Chris Kaman has surpassed Kirk Hinrich as the Best White American Basketball Player (BWABP). Hinrich held the BWABP title for the last three years before Kaman’s surprising rise this season. “Chris has worked real hard to get where he is,” Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy told SSNN. “For him to finally receive the recognition he deserves is great.” The injury to Clippers All-Star forward Elton Brand has allowed the team to structure their offense around Kaman, and the young big man has responded by having the best season of his career. Hinrich’s stats have plummeted after he averaged nearly 17 points per game last season, which is the principal reason for Kaman surpassing him. “It’s only a matter of time before Kirk gets the title back,” said Nick Collison, Hinrich’s college teammate and possible future BWABP contender. “Kirk is going to take this as a challenge, you’ll see.” Previous title-holders include Wally Szczerbiak and Brad Miller. While Steve Nash is widely assumed to be the title-holder, his Canadian origins disqualify him from consideration.
