FROM THE ARCHIVES: Exclusive Bonds rookie card auctioned
We haven’t spoken to our inside sources in the baseball card business yet, but SSNN assumes that this card will be worth even more now that Bonds has been indicted and may face jail time…
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Controversial superstar Barry Bonds’ Exclusive Edition Topps rookie card was auctioned off for a record $2.5 million on Thursday. The previous high was a $2.35 million sale of Honus Wagner’s 1909 card. The purchase was made by former senator and current MLB employee George Mitchell. “I’m not sure what I’ll do with it,” Mitchell said. “I might use it for this investigation I’m doing, but it would make a sweet sound in my bike spokes if I decide to go in that direction.” The card, pictured here, shows Bonds during spring training, before his first season with the Pirates - before he ever played an inning in the Major Leagues.
