Evel Knievel dies after wheelchair fails to clear doorway

CLEARWATER, FL — Legendary daredevil Evel Knievel died early Friday morning after his wheel chair failed to clear a two-inch high doorway frame, resulting in a tragic fall.

“Dad was always trying to prove he still had it,” Knievel’s daughter Krysten told SSNN. “Last week he shocked us all when he rode the wheelchair off the roof and into the pool. It’s just who he was.”

Knievel’s daredevil stunts catapulted him into instant fame during his illustrious career. His escapades included jumps over Greyhound buses and a failed attempt to clear Idaho’s famed Snake Canyon.

Knievel suffered nearly forty broken bones before retiring in 1980. His son, Robbie Knievel, stayed in the family business – like his father before him, he has become one of the world’s most daring adventurers.

“My dad wouldn’t have wanted to go out any other way,” a choked-up Robbie said. “Being a daredevil is in the Knievel blood. It’s who we are.”
