CONCORDIA, Mo.–Carlos Zambrano has basically been disinvited from ever spending Thanksgiving with the Murton family after a friendly game of Monopoly went horribly awry last Thursday night.
Matt Murton, left fielder of the Chicago Cubs, innocently invited Zambrano to spend Thanksgiving with his family after hearing that Zambrano would be in the United States over the holiday.
“I heard that Zambrano was gonna be in the States during Turkey day,” Murton said. “So I was thinking, the guy is from a foreign country, and probably has never had a proper Thanksgiving. I called Mom, and she said, ‘Sure, why not?,’ so I invited him over. Mistake #1.”
Murton indicated that everything went well during the dinner and dessert part of the evening, but that when the family sat down for Monopoly, all hell broke loose.
“First of all, Z is pretty insanely aggressive when he plays Monopoly,” Murton said. “He won’t trade properties unless he gets two monopolies and you only get one. He abhors Free Parking. And he’s such a jerk about the whole thing. It really made it not fun.”
There was apparently one major incident in which Zambrano got engaged in a verbal confrontation with Murton’s cousin Marie, who is 19, over whether a die that falls on the floor should count as a roll or not.
“Look, if a die falls on the floor, and it’s sitting straight up, and it’s a six, it counts,” Zambrano said. “That’s how they do it everywhere, and that’s how we’re going to do it here in the United States. “
Murton did not indicate if Zambrano would be invited back, but he did say that this was the last time they’d play Monopoly with him.
“If he ever comes back,” Murton said, “We’re playing Scattergories.”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
