Vince Carter promises to give 96% this season

NEWARK, NJ — During a press conference at New Jersey Nets media day, Vince Carter told reporters that he’ll give exactly 96% effort this year. “I’m not saying that will be a consistent number night in night out, but it should all average out in the end,” Carter said. The talented but fickle shooting guard signed a contract extension with New Jersey this summer and revealed that the 96% effort stipulation was in fact put into the contract. “It was a deal breaker for them. I told them I’d give around 94% they countered with 98 and we happily split the difference. I’m ready to ball.” Nets GM Rod Thorn believes this could be a breakout year for Carter. “Vince has shown the organization that he wants to be here which wasn’t always the case. 96% effort is a significant increase from his previous output so we’re thrilled.” With Carter, Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson, the Nets look to continue their recent success as a team that works best when on the run. “The up-tick in Vince’s effort will be good for 3-4 extra points a game, mark it down,” Jefferson told SSNN. “That’s one or two uncontested fast breaks alone. Can’t wait for the season to start!”
