LOS ANGELES, CA — New Dodgers manager Joe Torre reported today that the Dodgers are considering signing Alex Rodriguez to a record contract, and that he’s also submitted a “wish list” to Dodgers brass.
“Yeah, I let them know a few players that I think we might sign,” Torre told SSNN. “I said, let’s go after A-Rod. And then I thought we also might consider signing Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera. Both of those guys still have a lot of baseball left. Then I said, maybe let’s go out and try to trade for Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano – great double play combination. Then I thought, ‘Let’s shore up our outfield,’ so I suggested that we go out and get Hideki Matsui, who can really hit; Melky Cabrera, with his awesome glove, and Bobby Abreu. I mean, what an outfield that would be!”
Torre did not stop there. According to Dodgers GM Ned Coletti, Torre also suggested that the Dodgers pick up Jason Giambi, Chien-Ming Wang, Mike Mussina, Joba Chamberlain, Phillip Hughes, Ian Kennedy, Carl Pavano, Roger Clemens, Brian Bruney, Kyle Farnsworth, and Luis Vizcaino.
“I feel like there’s just a couple of tweaks we need to be competitive,” Torre said. “You know, add in a little piece here, a tiny bit there, and we can be a pretty interesting team.”
In related news, Johnny Damon emailed Torre to let him know that he has always dreamed of living in Malibu.
