Portis having trouble getting flights home for Thanksgiving

WASHINGTON–Clinton Portis is reeling today after realizing that he waited too long to book his flights home for Thanksgiving, and will have to settle for an unusual flight schedule or not be able to go home at all.

“Well, I got on Orbitz yesterday, looking for a flight to Jackson,” said Portis, who is from Laurel, Mississippi. “I was gonna go home on Tuesday and come back early Friday,” but I waited too long and everything was booked.

Portis wisely employed the site’s “flexible dates” button, and found some options. In one case, he would leave DC on Sunday morning (thereby missing the ‘Skins showdown with the Cowboys on Sunday, November 18) but would be able to return on Friday morning as hoped.

“Coach Gibbs didn’t like that one,” Portis said. “He wants me to make the game on Sunday if at all possible.”

So, Portis went back to the drawing board and found an option that may work. He is now planning on taking a 9 am Wednesday flight that goes to Houston, where he will change planes for the short connector to Jackson, arriving at 3 pm local time. Then, on Friday morning, he will leave Jackson at 6 am. He was able to find a direct flight, but it is
going to Baltimore, so he’ll need to take a cab to practice.

“Look, lesson learned,” Portis said. “There are not unlimited seats. So I booked my 2009 Thanksgiving trip already. As long as Thanksgiving is on the exact same day again next year, I’m all set.”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
