NBA threatened by writers strike

NEW YORK, NY –- Several days into the Hollywood writers strike, David Stern finally spoke out about what the work stoppage could mean for the NBA. “We’re tremendously concerned, obviously,” the Commissioner told SSNN. “We count on those guys to script this league to greatness. I mean, everyone knows Michael Jordan would have been little more than a prequel to J.R. Rider if not for Stan Chernofsky, the writer who first pitched the ‘Air’ Jordan storyline.” Though the strike is not expected to effect the league in the next few weeks, the end of the 2007-08 season might well be in jeopardy. “I feel stupid, because it’s largely just an oversight on my part,” Stern continued. “But I only had the guys write through the All-Star break. Who could have seen a strike coming? I figured we had until February to come up with the end of the season. I mean, we all assumed the Celtics would end up winning it all; but if the writers don’t come back, how will we know what to tell teams to do?” Commissioner Stern said that if this doomsday scenario came to bear, he would probably put a vote to the league’s owners as to whether it would be more appropriate to forgo the remainder of the season or just allow teams to play and “let the chips fall where they may. To me, that seems a horribly chaotic option.”
