LAWRENCE, KS — Despite being ranked fourth in the BCS, the Kansas Jayhawks football team believes they aren’t getting the respect they deserve. They’re hoping to change that opinion by scrimmaging the Kansas City Chiefs later this week. “I’m tired of people saying we haven’t played anybody,” Jayhawks receiver Derek Fine told SSNN. “If the Big 12 isn’t a good enough measuring stick for you, we’ll step it up a notch. We’re a good ball club, and when we kick the crap out of the Chiefs, everyone will know.” While a victory over an NFL team would seem to end all doubts, Paul Hoolahan, executive director of the Nokia Sugar Bowl, isn’t so sure. “Come on, it’s the Chiefs for cryin’ out loud. What does that prove? LJ’s hurt, and I could start at receiver for them.” Nonetheless, Jayhawks Head Coach Mark Mangino is preparing for the Chiefs like any other game. “The Chiefs are a good ball club, but we are too. Anything can happen. You gonna eat that?” Anxious bettors rushed to their bookies after Las Vegas released the spread, which had the Chiefs favored by 23.
