Huggins makes West Virginia best-paid college team

MORGANTOWN, WV — Sports Illustrated released their annual list of highest paid college basketball teams this week, and the West Virginia Mountaineers have taken over the top spot. The Mountaineers rise in the rankings is largely attributed to the addition of controversial head coach Bob Huggins. “I really wasn’t sure what to expect,” junior forward Joe Alexander told SSNN. “But I’m making two or three times what I made before Coach Huggins got here. If some of these young guys invest smartly, they’ll never have to work again.” After a one-year stint at Kansas State, Huggins returned to Morgantown to lead his alma mater. “West Virginia has always been a part of me,” the embattled headman explained. “To be able to give these players this honor after only one offseason is just amazing. I couldn’t be prouder.” This marks the twelfth time a Huggins-coached team has topped the best paid list, and is the coach’s second title since his unprecedented string of ten consecutive years at the University of Cincinnati. “Bob’s reputation of getting his players paid is right up there with all-time greats like Tark, Wooden and Eddie Sutton,” said West Virginia athletic director Ed Pastilong. “We’re very grateful to have Coach Huggins on our bench, and we look forward to winning this honor for many years to come.”
