Gardner-Webb scrambles to create website after stunning upset over Kentucky

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.–Following the school’s thrilling 84-68 upset victory over 20th-ranked Kentucky, Gardner-Webb University officials were scrambling to put together a website for their school.

“Prior to this week, we never really had any use for a website,” said John Michael Thomas, Jr., the school’s president. “Never really got that much attention, and weren’t really sure that this whole ‘web thing’ was going to stick, anyway. So we didn’t get around to it.”

All that changed Wednesday night, when the school’s team went on the road to Rupp Arena and changed history.

“We were all sitting around cheering, you know, at first,” said Thomas. “Then it sort of became like that one commercial for the dot-com, where they start to get too many orders, and people start breathing into bags and panicking and stuff. We realized, ‘Oh shoot, a lot of people are going to be looking for us tomorrow.’ So we had to get to work.”
