SEATTLE, WA — Despite sitting at 0-7, rookie Kevin Durant claims that he’s not worried about the Sonics’ slow start. Durant befuddled reporters on Sunday night when he offhandedly commented that, “once conference play begins, I think we’ll be in good shape.” The number two overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft said that his team’s early season woes shouldn’t preclude them from making a run in March. “I think if we can get things turned around by January, the tournament selection committee will recognize that we bring a lot to the table.” After Sunday night’s 107-103 loss to the Detroit Pistons, Durant remained optimistic: “These early games against non-conference opponents are really less about winning and more about figuring some things out. We’re going to be there when the Madness starts, I guarantee that. If we can just make it through this tough start, all it takes is six wins in March.” Durant then closed his post-game press conference with another statement of self-assurance: “Look, there are teams out there who fear us – Baylor, Kansas State, and Iowa State to name a few.”
