Rivers still shocked he didn’t throw away Colts game

SAN DIEGO, CA — It’s been nearly a week since the Chargers defeated the Colts, but San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers still can’t believe that – given the opportunity – he didn’t throw the game away.

“I keep running all the plays over and over in my head,” Rivers told SSNN. “I probably had at least six passes that should have been intercepted but weren’t. I guess I had a little luck this time.”

After thriving under former head coach Marty Schottenheimer last season, Rivers has struggled to recapture his passing touch and poise from the 2006-2007 season. His second season as a full-time starter has been beset by turnover woes and generally disappointing play from the entire Chargers team.

They say that anything can happen on any given Sunday, but Rivers finds little solace in the expression – “look at my stats and explain to me how we pulled that out. You can’t expect to win when you throw for 104 yards.”

Fellow Chargers teammate LaDainian Tomlinson was reluctant to place the Chargers’ struggles solely on Rivers. “We all have off games, Philip just seems to have his a little more often than the rest of us,” Tomlinson said. “Sure, it’s damn near a miracle we got that win last week, but I’m not going to apologize for the football gods hating Adam Vinatieri. Now let’s focus on the rest of the season and move on.”
