Judge sentences youth to 24 hours with Tim McCarver

PHILADELPHIA–As part of its newly implemented “Scared Straight” Program, a Philadelphia judge sentenced a North Philadelphia youth to 24 hours with baseball announcer, Tim McCarver. Citing McCarver’s vast knowledge on everything from handling a pitch count to proper etiquette when opening a bottle of champagne, Judge Paul Andrews of the 3rd circuit court hopes that McCarver can talk some sense into the troubled youth. “I’ve known Tim since his days catching Steve Carlton. The guy knows everything. If he didn’t go into baseball, he’d likely have my job right now. Or even higher.” This is the first time McCarver has ventured into pro bono social work. When not announcing baseball, McCarver lends his once in a generation mind to a variety of think tanks in the Washington D.C. area. City officials have great aspirations for the “Scared Straight” Program and hope that 24 Hours with McCarver will be more successful than last year’s “Learn from Iverson” program.

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
