OAKLAND, CA — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has reportedly asked the Houston Texans (3-5) and Oakland Raiders (2-5) to move their game, originally scheduled to take place at the McAfee Coliseum in Oakland on Sunday at 4:15 EST, to Hornet Stadium (capacity 21,195) on the campus of Sacramento State University. An NFL source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, also confirmed that Goodell suggested the Raiders play their game on Tuesday. “The Commissioner thinks it’s in the best interest of the league to limit potential conflict with television audiences,” the source said. “For any Raiders or Texans fans who might want to watch another game that may be on TV Sunday. Like, I dunno, Patriots versus Colts, for example.” The source also acknowledged that Commissioner Goodell is pushing Oakland and other struggling franchises to consider more weeknight games in general. “Roger sees this as an opportunity for teams like the Raiders to gain more exposure by playing their games on nights when there is no direct competition.” The league’s source categorically denied the rumor that the Commissioner had also suggested that the Raiders give up tackle football in favor of “flag” or “touch” football.
