BOSTON, MA — Up against the second game of the World Series, the Boston College Golden Eagles received the attention of a record-low four fans in the Boston area for their thrilling comeback victory over Virginia Tech last Thursday.
“I love my brother, but the Sox are the Sox,” said Michael Ryan, brother of BC quarterback Matt Ryan. “I flipped over to watch in between innings a couple times, but I didn’t want to stick with the football too long. I mean, who wants to miss a Schilling splitter just to see Andre Callender run for a loss of a yard?”
The unfortunate scheduling conflict was just another addition in the Golden Eagles quest for respect this year.
“People will see how good we are one of these days. Next weekend looks great,” said first-year Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski. “The Sox are done and the Celtics have the day off. I really think Boston fans might watch us.”
Trailing for almost the entire game, Matt Ryan orchestrated two touchdown drives in the closing minutes to snatch victory away from the Hokies.
“BC is wicked good,” Jasen Lafon – Boston sports fan and viewer number two – told SSNN. “I wouldn’t have even watched it had I known the Sox were on, though. I thought they played Friday night, for some reason. Pretty bummed that I miss Schilling tear it up.”
