ATHENS, GREECE – Even though Chris Webber is far from coming to terms with Greek powerhouse Olympiakos, Webber has caused quite a stir in Greece’s fastest rising industry, fantasy basketball.
According to www.fantasysports.greece.com, simple rumors of Webber signing a two-year contract with Olympiakos has vaulted him to the top of more than 90 percent of Greek fantasy drafts.
While SSNN sent a bilingual reporter to Athens to get some fantasy owner reactions, we unfortunately didn’t realize that they don’t speak Spanish in Greece. Apparently they speak a language called ‘Greek,’ which we assume is relatively new, and certainly not taught in American high schools (from where SSNN’s staff is culled).
American fantasy owner Andy Gordon, 27, is furious over this latest news.
“Man, I decided to hold on to C-Webb in my keeper league,” said Gordon, a native Michigander and owner of the Fab Forty (Ouncers). “And trust me, it’s not for those crucial 10 points and 6 rebounds a game. I kept him because people from Michigan are loyal – but I guess C-Webb forgot that.”
Basketball stat geek and Greek-American John Hollingeropoulosogluakis said that Greek owners are right to be excited about Webber’s possible move.
“Webber’s stats translate very well to Euroleague basketball,” Hollingeropoulosogluakis said. “Fantasy owners can count on 45-20-20 every game from him. Of course, he will also miss quite a bit of time due to injury, and untimely timeouts should be expected, especially during important games.”
While Webber is the consensus number one pick, the second pick in the draft is a matter for much debate. According to most sources, the debate has come down to Stavros Nikolaidis, a center with double-double potential, and Jim Jackson, formerly of Ohio State.

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
