CHICAGO, IL — In a Tuesday interview with SSNN following the Cowboys 34-10 thrashing of the Chicago Bears, Tony Romo gave opposing quarterback Rex Grossman a vote of confidence.
“Look, he’s no Tony Romo,” Romo said. “He’s probably not even Brett Favre, or Donovan McNabb. But he’s not the worst ever.”
Grossman, who threw for 195 yards, three interceptions, and no touchdowns in the game, was roundly booed throughout by his hometown fans. Romo thinks that Grossman may have gotten a bad rap.
“Look, if two of my touchdown passes were instead interceptions, and seven of my completed passes had actually totalled up to negative 129 yards, then we’ve got virtually the same performance,” Romo said. “And, when you think about it, one of Grossman’s interceptions actually did end up being a touchdown, so he’s halfway there. I mean, if it hadn’t been our touchdown.”
Romo thinks that the Chicago faithful is being unfair to Grossman, who is “better than at least ten living quarterbacks.” When asked to rattle off the ten quarterbacks, Romo faltered a bit but was eventually able to provide five names – Rick Mirer, Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, Brian Griese, and Kyle Orton. He readily admitted, though, that he put Griese and Orton on the list only because they continue to sit behind Grossman on the Bears’ depth chart.
“I think there is still time for Rex,” Romo said. “I didn’t get to be this good overnight. It took me at least eight games to get to Romo-level. How many games has Rex started – three? Give him some time.”
SSNN staff did not have the heart to tell Romo that Grossman has started nearly 30 games over the course of his four-plus years in the NFL, for fear that his perpetual smile might disappear, if only momentarily.

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
